International Rescue Comittee - New Roots SLC Farm Incubator Summer Associate VISTA/Food Security/SLC, UT

International Rescue Committee an organization that provides services to refugees/asylee-seekers in Salt Lake City in the New Roots Program (a farm incubator program), and we are looking for a few Summer Associates to help with our Farm and Market Teams (June 7- Aug 16). The positions are 40 hours/week, with a living stipend of $1040/month. Those who complete this VISTA position will qualify for a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award worth $1,289.95, or an end-of-service stipend. VISTAs also have the opportunity to receive training in professional development and have a broad network.

The Farmers Market Summer Associate position aligns well with principles taught in the Community Nutrition course taught at BYU and would provide students the opportunity to work hands-on battling food-insecurity amongst low-income individuals in food deserts by assisting SNAP/EBT customers and food pantry patrons at our Sunnyvale Market. The Farm Incubator Summer Associate would work directly with farmers at both Farm sites and would assist with development of a Wheadon farm stand and assist with the Community Supported Agriculture Program and well as wholesale and farmers markets.

Both positions would be part of assisting our Emergency Food Assistance program which provides culturally-relevant food items to IRC clients and community members.
