The Utah State Hospital has a fantastic opportunity for a Registered Dietician to utilize their expertise to nutritionally assist patients with mental illness.
Registered Dieticians at the Utah State Hospital work with food service department management to assess patients dietary needs, and work with patient treatment teams to develop plans to meet those needs. They also measure progress, review data and report findings, and occasionally deliver presentations, trainings or instructions to staff, management and clients.
Minimum Qualifications: You must be a Registered Dietician with a current, active license.
The Ideal Candidate for this position is someone who has:
- current licensure as a Registered Dietician (RDN)
- in-depth understanding of principles, theories, and practice of dietetics and nutrition
- the ability to use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts associated with information or data to draw reasonable conclusions
- experience in delivering presentations or training others
- the knowledge and ability to perform therapeutic assessments
- solid knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and/or policies and procedures
- the ability to understand, present and receive information clearly, concisely and effectively in written and verbal form.

Job Title: Research Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)

The RDN will be part of a research team involved in identifying the appropriate malnutrition screening, assessment and therapies for older adults. The research team consists of research RDNs, members of Mountainland Association of Government (MAG), Area Agency on Aging, Senior Community Centers in Utah county. The RDN will perform malnutrition screening and assessments, conduct cooking classes, promote physical activity and provide general nutrition education at Senior Community Centers. The goal of the Community Senior Centers is to promote independence through advocacy, engagement, and access to resources. They provide an array of health, wellness and fitness programs along with a noon meal for active older adults 60+ years of age living in the community.
Essential Functions:
1. Manages and oversees research operations in each Community senior center.
2. Orchestras planning and scheduling of study activities with center directors and staff.
3. Completes and documents comprehensive malnutrition assessment.
4. Completes and documents nutrition diagnosis.
5. Identifies and implements appropriate nutrition interventions including quality nutrition education-based participants needs, expectations, and culture.
6. Monitors and evaluates study participants nutrition outcomes related to nutrition diagnosis, goals, and interventions.
7. Conducts cooking classes for older adults.
8. Uses resources effectively and efficiently in practice.
9. Participates in continuous monthly research training.
10. Collaborates with other research dietitians and staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters in dietetics, nutrition, or nutrition related field. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
- Successful completion of an approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics program and registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration or registration eligible.
Preferences:
- Self-starter, detail oriented, and effective organizational skill
- Familiar with randomized control trial research design
- Certified Dietitian in the state of Utah or obtain within six months of hire
