Journal Club is an opportunity for students to present and discuss
current and classic peer reviewed journal articles. Student presenters work
with their research mentor to select an appropriate paper that relates to
their research topic. Students are expected to present at least one article as
part of their 494R research experience. The format for the presentations is
similar to that of a professional scientific meeting with approximately 15
minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion. The general outline
for the presentations is: Background, Problem, Hypothesis, Methods, Results,
and Conclusion. The discussions focus on the methodology used and the
appropriateness and implications of the conclusions drawn by the authors as
well as on opportunities for future research raised by the findings presented.
All Nutritional Science majors and minors (and any others interested)
are invited and encouraged to attend, regardless of their year in school. In
addition to the intellectually stimulating consideration of recent findings in
the field, Journal Club provides students an opportunity to socialize with
friends and peers who share similar interests.
